against Offsets by the State of California; the United Nations;

The undersigned Indigenous Peoples, local communities, peasants, environmentalists, human rights and civil society organizations reject all forms of carbon offsets and carbon trading by any name including but not limited to the State of California’s Tropical Forest Standard; REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation); International Transferrable Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs); airline offsets; carbon pricing; carbon farming and carbon tax because these false and fake solutions to climate change promoted by the United Nations, the World Bank, nation states or subnational jurisdictions do not reduce greenhouse gas emissions; violate human rights; threaten cultural survival of Indigenous Peoples; drive massive land grabs and violent evictions, which may turn forest dependent communities and peasants into peons on their own land; can include genetically engineered trees, plants and seeds; privatize Mother Earth and Father Sky; as well as fuel climate catastrophes and global warming chaos, which could render our planet inhabitable.
We demand that you desist from designing, promoting and implementing these carbon trading death sentences for humanity, Nature and future generations and cut emissions at source immediately and systematically as part of a just transition away from a fossil-fuel dependence and a paradigm shift towards peace, true sustainability based on healing our relationship with Mother Earth, Father Sky and with ourselves.
