Earth Minute: G7 Summit 2021

Over the weekend 7 of the world’s wealthiest nations, known as the G-7 countries, met in Cornwall for their annual summit to discuss a new climate change plan.

While leaders agreed to end worldwide investments in coal and promised to help developing nations with the rising costs of climate change, they failed to make any concrete plans to reduce emissions. Climate activists, however, are calling for more than just a transition to cleaner energy sources.

According to the executive director of Greenpeace, UK, “without agreeing to end all new fossil fuel projects — something that must be delivered this year if we are to limit dangerous rises in global temperature — this plan falls very short.”

The need to tackle climate change requires systemic change, instead of false solutions that will only worsen our ecological and economic crises.

For the Earth Minute and the Sojourner Truth Show, this is Theresa Church from Global Justice Ecology Project.
