GILCHRIST COUNTY, FLA – Protesters blocked workers en route to the Sabal Trail gas pipeline, a 3 billion dollar project that will carry gas for more than 500 miles through Florida, Georgia and Alabama.

The pipeline will pass through the Santa Fe River basin which has residents concerned, according to WCJB-TV.

Protester Mike Roth told WCJB-TV that the demonstrators “are defending our interest there is so many people in this area that have put all of their assets into their homesteads here, to destroy what we’ve all invested for the rest of our lives, that’s grossly unfair so we feel like we have to make a statement.”

Construction on the pipeline is expected to be completed by June next year.
