WATCH: FERC Chairman Shut Down During ‘Market Based’ Climate Talk, May 14 Action Planned for Albany

Via Stop The Bomb Trains: Albany Break Free From Fossil Fuels Facebook Page

Today, we shut down a speech the Chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission tried to give a room of power plant owners about “market-based solutions” to the climate crisis. Instead of regulating, FERC is a rubber stamp approval machine for the fossil fuel industry, with close to a 100% approval record for infrastructure projects.

We are standing up to fight environmental racism and ‪#‎KeepItInTheGround‬. Join us in Albany as we ‪#‎BreakFree2016‬.

In just two days we will walk through Albany’s historic South End neighborhood down to the Hudson River and the Port of Albany stop the bomb trains.I want to take a moment before we all head to Albany’s Lincoln Park (10AM Saturday) to pause and reflect why we’re doing this. Our motivation to take action for climate and environmental justice can spring from our anger, sadness, love and so many other emotions, even fear. But in our coming together, living into the crisis with our bodies in a way that confronts the urgency and magnitude of this situation, we find an opportunity for true hope.

With so many lives at stake – at Ezra Prentice homes and in the South End of Albany, all along the rail corridor blast zone, in the shale fields of North Dakota where this fracked oil is loaded into the trains, and across the globe as climate catastrophe unfolds – this is a serious endeavor. I’m convinced that this sort of action works because we lead by example. And when we lead boldly by example, people are moved to join us.

Part of our example on Saturday, as we prepare to stop the bomb trains in the Port of Albany, will be in how we conduct ourselves. I want to share again the agreements we will make before taking action together. We’ll read them together when we assembleSaturday morning, and commit to them before our march steps off.
