The Washington Post: The future of paper could come from gene-edited trees

An article appeared in The Washington Post on August 1, 2024 that examined gene-edited trees.

Anne Petermann, executive director of the Global Justice Ecology Project, was quoted in the article: “The potential for genetic contamination of wild forests with the engineered trait is quite serious” Petermann also added that expanding tree plantations tends to “replace wild forests, displace Indigenous and forest-dependent communities and exacerbate the climate crisis.”

The entire article can read on The Washington Post’s website or MSN.com

NOTE: GJEP recently released a documentary that highlights Brazil’s Green Deserts of Monoculture Eucalyptus Plantations.
