Photo of the Week – Red Masks in Resistance: Women Take Action

Red Masks in Resistance
Women had a leading role in the Chilean uprising, including the Red Masks in Resistance movement. The women’s collective Las Tesis wrote a song called “Rapist in Your Path” about the sexual attacks against women by the police. The song is now sung at women’s marches and protests around the world. This year Global Justice Ecology Project is celebrating our 20th Anniversary.  As part of this year-long celebration, we will be posting photos by co-founder Orin Langelle, Director of Langelle Photography, documenting different aspects and achievements of GJEP over those 20 years, as well as photos from events and activities beginning 30 years ago in 1993 that led to the formation of Global Justice Ecology Project ten years later.

“March is International Women’s History Month, an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. For my Photo of the Week Series I chose Women march into Plaza de la Dignidad, Santiago, Chile (2019). This is from my current exhibit posted on the Social Documentary Network, Chile Despertó: People’s Uprising / Images from the Frontlines.” – Orin Langelle

This photo also appeared in a photo essay in the About Place Journal published in May 2021 – Vol VI, Issue III.

Orin’s impressive bio can be found here.
