NOVEMBER 30th – Global Day of Action for Climate Justice
CLICK ABOVE TO JUMP TO ACTION INFORMATION IN A REGION NEAR YOU
Monday November 30 is a global day of action for climate justice.
Please put it in your calendar now; plan to take the day off work, school or other responsibilities if you can. Get together with friends, family, neighbors, and your organization, church, or union members to join or organize an action.
Below is information about regional actions being organized across the US that you can join. We have also created a step-by-step guild to organizing a local action if you are not near a regional action or prefer to organize a local one.
We are also appealing for donations to help us with expenses for coordination and media. Please visit BeyondTalk.net to make a donation.
The next month is the single most important moment in the history of the battle against climate change and global warming.
We need to push the US government to commit to just, equitable and scientifically credible solutions to climate change. To do this we first need to push back against the climate polluting corporations, their financiers and lobbyists that have pushed the US government to join them in obstructing real climate solutions, promoting false solutions in their stead, and undermining any progress in US climate legislation and at the United Nations Copenhagen Climate Negotiations.
In the last couple weeks people around the world have taken bold action to demand a real deal for the planet in Copenhagen. On Oct. 24th, people in 181 countries staged over 5,200 actions calling for global action on climate change. And on Nov. 4, African delegates walked out of pre-Copenhagen UN talks in Barcelona, Spain, demanding that rich countries commit to deeper and faster emissions cuts – while European activists engaged in civil disobedience to support the walkout demands.
Throughout history, the most effective catalyst for social change has been ordinary people organizing, and taking to the streets and engaging in nonviolent direct action.
November 30th also marks the ten year anniversary of the nonviolent civil disobedience shutdown of the World Trade Organization in Seattle. It was a time when world leaders said there was no alternative to their path and that their corporate globalization agenda was inevitable. Back then, delegates from the Global South walked out as a massive popular movement filled the streets with blockades, song and resistance. We did this ten years ago at the WTO protests in Seattle on Nov. 30, 1999, and we can do it again in three weeks.
The world awaits us to take action for the planet, the people and future generations. Please join us.
