I am Adam Kuleit Ole Mwarabu Lemareka, a traditional livestock keeper born on 19th February 1975 at Losiyoi area, Kwamwande village, Handeni district Tanga region Tanzania. Educated at Kwamwande primary school 1984-1990, Hegongo Secondary school 1991-1994 and Usagara high school in 1995-1997 taking science subjects. I have also attended short courses in Tanzania-NGOs Administration 2002, Zambia-HIV/AIDs Stigma &Discrimination 2005, Malawi-HIV/AIDs awareness 2007, Kenya-Farmers Field School 2003 and Switzerland-Human rights & International laws 2002.
I am working as Secretary for the Parakuiyo Community, a Parakuiyo pastoralist’s traditional institution in Tanzania. I also work as Coordinator for Parakuiyo Pastoralists Indigenous Community Development Organization-PAICODEO, a Parakuiyo pastoralist’s organization registered on 24/08/2006. The organization is covering Mbeya, Iringa, Morogoro, Dodoma, Coast, Tanga and Manyara regions.
I am now working with my community mainly on the areas of human rights, environment, culture, peace, gender and representation in decision making arenas. I have a big interest in preserving good cultures for peace, biodiversity conservation and arrive at an excellent level of human rights enjoyment in the Parakuiyo community.
Parakuiyo Maasai are found in the eastern, north eastern, coastal, central and southwestern parts of Tanzania. Their population range between 100-300,000 peoples. They depend more on livestock economy mostly practicing pastoralism mode of production in the semi arid and arid lands. Parakuiyo pastoralists keep livestock for food, conflict mediation and as a symbol of their culture.
I have a great pleasure of meeting other communities and share with them about our culture and learn from their good cultures.
