Please join Global Justice Ecology Project for a rousing presentation on the effects of nuclear power to human health.
The talk will be given by Dr. Winfrid Eisenberg, a German pediatrician and “a recognized authority on the issues of the hazards of nuclear energy for children, nuclear disarmament, and implications for human rights. He has participated in many public forums raising the awareness of the risks associated with the use of nuclear energy.”
The presentation will take place at Champlain Valley Union High School (369 CVU Road, Hinesburg, VT– at the auditorium) on Friday, February 20th at 7pm. There will be a potluck at the Global Justice Ecology Project office (10600 rte 116, Hinesburg) before the presentation, at 6pm. Please bring a dish to share and your choice of beverage if you choose to join us before the event! Dr. Eisenberg will also be joining us at the potluck.

Is Nuclear Power Dangerous to Your Health?
Hinesburg, VT–As the owners of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant in Vernon, VT, seek to renew their license to operate the 36 year old nuclear reactor for another 20 years beyond 2012, Dr. Winifrid Eisenberg, M.D., will discuss recent reports on the increased incidence of cancer in children living near nuclear installations. He will speak February 20th, 2009 at 7:00 pm at Champlain Valley Union High School, 369 CVU Road, Hinesburg, VT. [1]
Dr. Eisenberg is a German pediatrician and a recognized authority [2] on the issues of hazards of nuclear energy for children, nuclear disarmament, and implications for human rights and the health consequences, including the nuclear accident in Chernobyl. [3] He has participated in many public forums raising the awareness of the risks associated with the use of nuclear energy.

[2] Dr. Eisenberg is a member of the German International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), — in the U.S. Physicians for Social Responsibility — since 1982 and served on its board from 2003-2007..
Dr. Eisenberg will be report on the recent German study on childhood cancer in the vicinity of nuclear power plants, which describes the increased risk of leukemia in children under 5 years old who live near a nuclear power plant. The German government’s “Federal Office of Radiation Protection” published this study in 2007. [3] Dr. Eisenberg will also share his experience from a medical doctor’s point of view, of the health consequences of the Chernobyl accident in 1986 both in Belarus and in Germany, a country that was affected by fallout from Chernobyl despite being approximately 900 miles from the site of the accident. He has examined and treated children who have survived the Chernobyl nuclear accident and children whose parents were survivors.
