TRANSCRIPT:
The US elections are over. Now we need to get back to the real work of making change.
One look at history—the people’s history—and we see that both blue and Red together have driven us to the lip of a yawning, bottomless chasm called climate catastrophe.
While Blue may make the seats a little more comfortable, it will not stop the Capitalist train from hurtling us into that chasm.
Nor will Blue stop the carnage outside our imaginary borders.
In fact, both Blue and Red are equally culpable for it; globalizing Capitalism, freely trading our future, stoking that locomotive and strewing bodies across the landscape. Hillary Clinton endorsed the coup in Honduras that led to the caravan of people fleeing the horrors there.
History teaches us that it is people who make change, not politicians – so how are we, the people, going to organize, mobilize, join forces and build power to stop this hurtling train?
Maybe we should join that caravan, and invite them to join us.
For the Earth Minute and the Sojourner Truth show, this is Anne Petermann, from Global Justice Ecology Project.
