The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed more than doubling the number of states allowed to use Dow’s toxic herbicide Enlist Duo on GMO crops despite its earlier concerns.
According to the Center for Food Safety, “Enlist Duo is a toxic combination of glyphosate and 2,4-D that Dow AgroSciences created for use on the next generation of genetically engineered crops, designed to withstand being drenched with this potent herbicide cocktail.”Dow Chemical Company said in a statement recently that it was “pleased” with the proposal.The EPA is seeking comment through Dec. 1.The EPA had approved Enlist Duo for use in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.The proposal would allow it to be used in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
