Earth Watch: Ducky Slowcode on the Fight to Stop Toxic Prisons

The Sojourner Truth Show Radio Show Earth Watch guest for June 21 was Ducky Slowcode, an organizer with the Campaign to Fight Toxic Prisons (FTP), the Earth First! Prisoner Support Project, and the Human Rights Coalition, a PA-based group founded in 2001 to support prisoners and their families, led by current and former prisoners and their families.

FTP works alongside grassroots prison abolition groups to provide research, strategy, and networking tools and resources to stop further expansion of the prison system.  FTP also works to elevate the voices coming from inside the walls, especially as they draw attention to environmental- and health-based hazards within the prison system.
The third Fight Toxic Prisons Convergence just happened from June 8-11, in Pittsburgh PA.  Over 200 people from Pittsburgh and across the country came to participate in the events, which included legal trainings (offering CLE credit), panels, breakout discussions, call-ins from behind bars, film screenings, as well as a hip-hop show and art display. The weekend ended with a march through downtown Pittsburgh and demonstrations at the headquarters of EQT and a power plant operated by NRG Energy, Inc, calling attention to the many ways in which environmental struggle and prison abolition are linked, and giving honor to June 11th, International Day of Solidarity with Long-Term Anarchist Prisoners.

The Sojourner Truth Radio Show airs every week on KPFK-FM in Los Angeles and around the world online.
