KCET’s ‘food rant’ against the ‘pandora’s box’ of GM orange trees

Rick Paulas wrote a great ‘food rant’ for KCET.org on January 15, 2014.

He addresses the ongoing crisis of citrus trees in Florida, and the plan by some to find solutions through genetic engineering. He argues against this, but also points out that the response needs to be more that about GMO oranges losing market:

Because turning over the industry to GMO concerns is not just throwing something at the wall and hoping for it to stick. It’s the nuclear option. It’s Pandora’s Box.

Once those GMOs get out there, there is no going back.

The Pandora’s Box is a perfect way to think about GE trees in general, of all types.
